Each year, WFFT chooses a community non-profit making a big impact in the area of health and wellness. For the past two years, we have chosen to recognize Urban Roots, asking our auction guests to help us support their amazing work through the event's Bottles Up. This year's Bottles Up was so successful, we were able to present a grant to Urban Roots for $42,450!
WFFT Gives Big to Urban Roots!
We are proud to say that we have been able to give the organization at total of $69,000 over the past two years thanks to the generosity of our auction committee, members, and event guests. Thank you for helping us cultivate and invest in the wine and food community through education, appreciation, and enjoyment.
Urban Roots uses food and farming to transform the lives of young people and inspire, engage, and nourish the community by providing paid internships to Austin youth, age 14-17, to work on a 3.5 acre urban sustainable farm in East Austin. Each year, Urban Roots has a goal of growing 25,000 pounds of produce with their community of youth, community volunteers, and staff. The organization donates 40% of their harvest to local soup kitchens and food pantries. These 30 youth interns will participate in a challenging, rewarding, paid internship where they learn valuable 21st Century life and job skills, develop a healthier relationship with food, and become self-‐aware leaders.
