Along the Waters - A Regional Overview of Bordeaux

Bordeaux is the largest defined appellation in France. Bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, with the Gironde, Dordogne, Garonne rivers flowing through the region, Bordeaux is divided into 65 designated geographic areas for wine production, covering the styles of sparkling, white, rosé, red, and sweet. With an annual output of 5.1 million hectoliters, Bordeaux is a haven for amazing wine. In this class we will explore wines from the six families of the region covering Bordeaux-Bordeaux Supérieur, Médoc, Blaye-Bourg, The Libournais, Entre-Deux-Mers, and Graves-Sauternais.

With a 2000 year history, Bordeaux is a gift of nature regarding the ‘fruits of the vine’.

About the instructor

Nathan T. Prater has embraced a life long dedication to service, mentorship, and education in the professions of music, law enforcement, cuisine, and beverage. While he has enjoyed many accolades as a service professional, he has adopted the words of Charles Ives, an American composer who refused the Pulitzer Prize, stating "Awards are for boys. I am a man." Nathan is first a student, second a teacher/mentor, and third a sommelier. Beyond all else, his greatest satisfaction is that of the success of others he has had the honor and privilege to teach. Currently, he is the owner of SOMMinfluence, LLC, servicing all aspects of beverage consulting and education, in addition to part ownership in PSS FOODCO, LLC, which provides cuisine service to VISTA Brewing in Driftwood, TX.
