Spain is famous for being home to the most vineyard acreage in the world, yet produces less wine than both France and Italy. This means that there are older vineyards and lower yields than practically every other wine producing region in the world and a vast variety of grapes planted all over the Iberian Peninsula. While Tempranillo from Rioja has dominated, there is a treasure of up-and-coming regions from the Spanish islands to La Mancha and Galicia. These regions are just waiting to be discovered!
SPEAKERS: Ben Roberts, Advanced Sommelier & Ali Schmidt, Certified Sommelier
This decadent tasting is not to be missed! We will pair Champagne, the most elegant, powerful, and alluring of wines for many wine lovers, with your crave-worthy indulgences. In this high-brow vs. low-brow tasting, you will learn the characteristics of sparkling wine that complement even the most simple foods to make the entire experience divine. Think bubbles and frites and a few pairings you'd never expect!
We all love the great wines of the world, from places like Napa Valley, Bordeaux, and Burgundy. However, is it possible to discover bottles that deliver equivalent or even more pleasure while staying within an everyday budget? Yes! This will be an interactive session where you’ll get to blind taste classic wines against our sommelier's value-driven recommendations. You’ll learn the tricks of the trade: how certain wines taste similar to others, why certain wines cost so much, and how to find everyday wines for yourself. It's a fun way to drink, to learn, and be as savvy as a sommelier when you buy wine.
SPEAKERS: Scott Ota, Advanced Sommelier & Nathan Prater, Advanced Sommelier
The term Super Tuscan was coined in the 1970s to describe a trend of winemakers rebelling against the restrictive wine laws of the official regions, namely the Chianti Classico DOCG. Producers proved that they could make world class wines, with hefty price tags, from international grape varieties or by exploring previously untapped areas of Tuscany. Join us for a deep dive into the various styles of wine being produced, the variety of grapes used, and the most exciting geographical nooks of Tuscany.
SPEAKERS: Craig Collins, Master Sommelier & Mark Sayre, Advanced Sommelier
